Sberbank warned of a new phone fraud scheme in which the victim is allegedly accused of treason. The attackers claim that transfers were made from client accounts in favor of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Sberbank” warned about an increase in fraud with fictitious treason

The scheme of such a deception looks like this:

  • scammers call the client and present themselves as police officers or FSB agents;
  • they denounce that an employee of the bank where the client is served stole their personal data and transfers money from their account in favor of the Ukrainian army;
  • as the responsibility lies with the cardholder, the client can be accused of treason, for which he faces up to 20 years in prison;
  • after that, the scammers connect the “bank security service” to the conversation and force the victim to transfer money to their accounts and even take out loans. This is explained because in this way it will be possible to “calculate the bank employee who stole personal data.”

The deputy chairman of Sberbank’s board of directors, Stanislav Kuznetsov, urged citizens “never to believe such accusations and immediately stop any conversations with scammers.” According to him, the bank has recently faced an increase in fraudulent calls in which the attackers use a fraud scheme with fictitious treason and financing of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The credit institution advised to additionally connect notifications about bank transactions and monitor your history to protect yourself.
