A Chinese user recently came across a fake driver allegedly Samsung 980 Pro. The fake SSD had everything leading to believe its authenticity, including branded stickers. The fake was so good that the mystery disc even managed to fool the Samsung Magician software.
If you remove all labels, you can recognize the 12-nanometer Maxio MAP1602A controller, which has no DRAM buffer but has PCIe 4.0 support. Sure, it has 4.8 and 4.5 GB/s – less sequential read and write speeds versus 7 and 5 GB/s for the original.
The seller is selling fake 2TB Samsung 980 Pro SSDs for 880 yuan in Xianyu. The price alone should already arouse suspicion, but not everyone can predict the market value.
