Popular dry shampoo brands have voluntarily recalled products manufactured before October 2021 because they contain benzene.
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) defines benzene as a colorless or light yellow liquid. People can be exposed by breathing air containing the chemical, through the skin, or by mouth. According to the NCI, benzene has been associated with leukemia and other blood cancers.
You can check the ingredients of your dry shampoo to make sure it’s safe. The list of recalled products can be found here.
