Currently, doctors rely on MRI to determine muscle wasting. Doing this can often be cumbersome and expensive, so a dedicated device can make the task much easier.

To test the device, the team took 3D-printed limb molds and filled them with minced meat. The sensor successfully measured small volumetric changes in limb size and was able to track muscle loss up to 51%.
