The American corporation Apple intends to invest a billion dollars a year in the creation of films for theaters, Bloomberg learned. The company will use the theaters to promote its own streaming service.
According to agency sources, Apple, among other things, pursues the goal of increasing its credibility in Hollywood. The company has already approached several major studios with a proposal for cooperation. Apple wants to participate in the creation of several boxes this year. There are also plans for next year.
The list of possible releases included Martin Scorsese’s western Killers of the Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. The film will screen at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in May. The fact that the filming was financed, including by Apple TV +, was previously known. Another joint project between the company and the studios, according to sources, could be Ridley Scott’s Napoleon with Joaquin Phoenix.
The agency’s interlocutors added that Apple’s investment in this area has grown strongly compared to previous years. Previously, most of the company’s movies were only available on the streaming service or shown in a limited number of theaters.
