This fungus causes a disease in plants that scientists refer to as “silver leaf.” As a result, infected plants die.

Ironically, the victim of the fungus was a 61-year-old mycologist from Calcutta, who presented to doctors with constant fatigue as well as problems swallowing, wheezing and coughing. Moreover, this situation started three months before he went to the hospital.

An abscess was found in the patient’s trachea, and doctors found the same Chondrostereum purpurea in the pus samples. Within two months, the man took antifungal medication as he had fully recovered.

For the scientific community, such a case was a real shock, as it pointed to a serious threat of global warming for humanity. Due to temperature changes, fungal infections can mutate rapidly and adapt to new habitat conditions. And if at the same time it is fungal plant diseases that begin to threaten humans, then humanity will face serious tests.
