Musk described Japan, where the birth rate has been falling since 1973, as a “leading indicator” in this regard. In 2022, less than 800,000 children were born in the country for the first time in more than 100 years. According to the estimates of the Japanese relevant departments, by 2100, the population of Japan may decrease to 53 million people.
“There is a huge payback coming due to the low birth rate. Japan is a leading indicator,” Musk tweeted.
