In 2022, Alfa-Bank’s net loss according to RAS amounted to 117.1 billion rubles, according to the statements of the credit institution. The bank completed 2021 with a profit of 136.6 billion rubles.
Last year, the loss of Alfa-Bank was record, and before that the organization worked without losses for 13 years.
Alfa-Bank Managing Director Vladimir Verkhoshinsky explains the losses in the first half of 2022 by freezing part of the assets stored in foreign currency. Thus, due to the sanctions of Western countries, the bank’s performance was affected by a negative revaluation of the currency.
At the same time, excluding revaluation, the profit of the entire group reached 300 million dollars, adds Verkhoshinsky.
“Alfa-Bank not only showed earnings in the second half of 2022, but also shows strong growth in the first quarter of 2023,” Verkhoshinsky said.
Thus, the IFRS indicators in January and February indicate a profit of 26.1 billion rubles. This is approximately 70% of the results for the same period in 2021.
Verkhoshinsky also noted that Alfa-Bank’s loan portfolio grew by more than 20% last year. And the portfolio of small and medium-sized companies grew by 30%. The bank also increased its retail client base by 17% to 26 million people. The corporate customer base grew by 24%, now it has 1.3 million companies.
The day before, VTB published the financial statements for 2022. The bank also ended the year with a loss. Thus, according to RAS, VTB recorded a net loss of almost 760 billion rubles, according to IFRS, a net loss amounted to 613 billion rubles.
