The new feature requires special hardware components on the smartphone, so it is unknown whether it will be available on current Pixel models or only future models.

A similar feature has already been implemented in iOS 15 and later, where the Always-on Processor chip is used to detect turned off iPhones. In addition, Google is developing a Geolocation Networking system that will connect Android smartphones to the network via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to find lost devices without internet or power.
