In response, Twitter blocked the ability to like or retweet any post containing the word “Substack”, and also blocked searches for the word itself.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk explained his decision, stating that Substack was “trying to download a large portion of the Twitter database to create the Twitter clone.”

Best replied that he has been using Substack’s Twitter API for many years and believes it complies with their terms of service. He also stated that Twitter never notified Substack about the alleged violation.

It’s also worth remembering that earlier Twitter started marking Substack links as “unsafe”.
