Fake versions of Ernie chatbot found in the App Store, Baidu’s lawsuit against Appleas reported by Reuters last week. The action, which also targets the developers who created the clones, calls for the immediate withdrawal of these apps from the official iOS store.
Developed by the Chinese technology giant, Ernie is a virtual robot with artificial intelligence (AI) touted as the Asian country’s main answer to ChatGPT.. The technology, created by American OpenAI, gained notoriety late last year for its ability to “talk” to users.
Despite announcing its own bot in March, the Beijing-based company has yet to make the tool’s official app publicly available. By taking advantage of the space, some developers offer iPhone apps that are supposed to carry artificial intelligence technology.
In the lawsuit filed in the Haidian People’s Court, the capital of China, Baidu explains that all the apps currently on the App Store that claim to run the Ernie chatbot are fake. Apple has yet to comment on the lawsuit or say whether it will take any action on those apps.
Exclusive to selected users
during the presentation Baidu chatbotLast month, Robin Li, CEO of big tech, announced that the tool has features similar to those found in GPT-4, the latest version of ChatGPT added to Microsoft’s Bing search engine. Innovation can summarize financial reports, create itineraries, and much more.
For now, Ernie AI can only be used by a select group of users by requesting access codes. It should only be available after the testing phase, but for now there is no set deadline for this to happen.
