Once sealed, wines can be stored for decades in a special refrigerator. But everything changes when the wine is opened.

Wine expert and sommelier Dr. John McTavish stated that oxygen is the enemy of wine. The longer the wine is exposed to oxygen, the faster it loses its flavor and aroma and begins to deteriorate.

Sugary wines last a little longer than others. For example, sweet wine does not spoil for a week, port – two or three weeks. It is better to drink sparkling wine at once, but a good cork will extend its shelf life up to 1-2 days. White wine with high acidity can be stored for up to 5 days, and normal red or white wine for up to 3 days.

Ideally, you should try to drink the entire bottle the day you open the wine. Signs that a wine has gone bad include a vinegar odor, a brownish color, or a sour/musty taste. And if the wine is still, sizzling or bubbling in it may indicate that the wine is spoiled.
