There is a habit loop. It includes a stimulus (like feeling sad), a habit (eating chocolate), and a reinforcer/reward (feeling happy). Changing eating habits is difficult. But if you’re used to eating sweets, here’s what you can do.

  1. getting enough sleep. Insomnia can make you crave sweets. Lack of sleep encourages the release of large amounts of the appetite hormone ghrelin. As a result, you will eat more and mostly foods high in carbohydrates the next day. The optimal amount of sleep is considered to be about seven to eight hours.

  2. regular meals. It is better to arrange several small meals throughout the day. This will reduce hunger and sugar cravings.

  1. drink lots of water. This will reduce the feeling of hunger associated with dehydration. You can also drink unsweetened fruit juices to meet your sugar needs.

  2. Healthy snack selection. Replace the sticks with fresh fruits, dried fruits, nuts, yogurt.

  3. regular exercises. Cravings for sweets can come from stress or boredom. This is exactly what physical activity does.
