An American man has managed to overturn a piracy charge against an adult film distributor in court.

But Mullins did not give up and made a rare counterargument against the company. He contested the lawsuit and asked for proof of illegal downloading, but Malibu did not present any evidence to the court. The first victory came in 2021, when the man earned the right to receive US$48,600 from the manufacturer to cover costs and legal fees. But the company did not pay – which doubled the penalty to $108,000.

Malibu still resisted payment and had to transfer the money partly through payment companies affiliated with the manufacturer. In a statement, the company denied that anything wrong was done in the process and complained of the court’s decision, calling the compensation a “pathetic extortion decision”.
