Reuters writes about the growth of the share of Chinese smartphones in the Russian market, citing data from M.Video-Eldorado.

In the first quarter of 2023, Chinese smartphones got a 70% share of the Russian market. In the same period of 2022, participation was estimated at 50%. The leaders of the Russian smartphone market are the Chinese Xiaomi and Realme.

Demand for Chinese brands in quantitative terms grew by 42% year-on-year, with former smartphone market leaders Samsung of Korea and Apple of the United States moving to the third and fourth lines on the leader list.

The popularity of Chinese smartphone brands in the Russian market is growing against the background of reduced supplies from Samsung and Apple. In general, Russia’s dependence on China has increased due to the increased use of the yuan, the agency notes.
