The Google Workspace suite, which has platforms like Docs, Sheets (also called Google Spreadsheets), or Slides, has been updated with a small but much-needed update. All of these apps are getting a feature from today that promises to put an end to many headaches from many users who can’t find certain formulas or any particular function: the new advanced search engine.

Google calls this new option “improved tool finder” and allows, as the name suggests, to search for tools in a much simpler and more intuitive way. The user only needs to put what they want to find or add to that document, spreadsheet or slide, and the search engine does the rest.

The capital G gives as an example some of the search commands we can use in Google Workspace. By entering “who last viewed this document”, the corresponding application, such as Documents, will automatically open an activity window where you can see the users who viewed the document. google too will display personalized search suggestions based on the general searches of other users.

These advanced tool search capabilities are designed to help you quickly find the features or functions you want using your own words.

says Google.

However, the improved tool search engine is of particular importance in Spreadsheets, an alternative to Google Excel, known in Spanish-speaking countries as Google Spreadsheets. Mainly because the new search tool can find and execute commands and formulas as simple as deleting a column, as well as more complex ones that cannot be applied manually by less experienced users.

So, if someone selects a column and enters “currency format” into the search engine, the function will automatically add the currency symbol to all rows in that column.

A new and improved search for tools in Google Workspace is now available.

New improved tool finder starting rolling out across all Google Workspace products today, although the company claims that it may take some time for some users. When this feature is available, a small search bar will be displayed in the lower left corner of the options menu along with a replay button.

The search command, yes, is already available in current versions of Docs, Slides and Sheets. However, this one is significantly less advanced than the one Google just announced. It can be accessed via the help menu at the top.

Interestingly, Microsoft has a feature in Excel similar to the improved search for Google Workspace tools. In this case, the platform able to determine the correct formula for a row or column, suggest it to the user, and enter it automatically. Thus, this is another simple way to avoid a real headache for less experienced users.
