This Wednesday night (26), Telegram app was offline in Brazil. The issue occurred shortly after the Federal Police (PF) request was granted by the Espírito Santo Court of Justice (TJES). in social networks, users report that they can’t send or receive messages or connect to the app.

The court order was announced today, informing operators Claro, Tim, Vivo and Oi to turn off their Telegram signal. Google and Apple should also be notified to remove the app from their stores (Play Store and App Store respectively), but it’s still possible to find it in both.

Telegram was prompted to send data from neo-Nazis joining groups in the messaging app. However, the company did not provide complete data such as the phone number of the executives that led to the PF investigation.

Why is Telegram down?

The PF order was placed last week for Telegram to deliver the requested data, and Telegram even sent some of the data on Friday, 21st. Based on this, the judge set a 24-hour period to comply with the order, fined 1 million BRL per day until the company provides all the material.

A blocking decision by Federal Supreme Court (STF) Minister Alexandre de Moraes in 2022 also caused the application to be blocked in the country for two days. In January of this year, Telegram was fined 1.2 million BRL for failing to comply with the court order.
