Subscriptions for the AWD EQE 350 sedan and SUV now start at $60 per month or $600 per year, while more expensive AWD EQS 450 cars and SUVs will ask for more than $90 per month or $900 per year.

The automaker also offers a one-time fee of $1,950 for the EQE and $2,950 for the EQS to unlock the boost boost feature permanently.

Critics argue that this trend is alarming and that buyers should not pay extra for features already built into the cars they buy. However, more and more companies are opting for this approach.
