The developer of ChatGPT’s most famous conversational AI model, OpenAI, has raised over $300 million in investments from Tiger Global, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Thrive, K2 Global and others, with a valuation of $27-29 billion.

ChatGPT Developer OpenAI Raises $300M From New Investors

This became known to TechCrunch, which recalls that earlier this year, Microsoft announced a large investment in the startup (it invested around $10 billion in OpenAI).

The portal managed to find out that the tender proposal was developed in January, at the time of increased interest in OpenAI and its business. And the startup planned to officially announce the new investments next week.

The journalists suggest that, for the time being, investors have already signed the terms of the deal and transferred the funds, and all that remains is to sign a contract with OpenAI. After that, more than 30% of OpenAI will be owned by outside investors.

According to PitchBook, most of the new investors are investing in the company for the first time: K2 Global, Ozi Amanat, Thrive. At the same time, some venture investors have already acted as backers of the startup. Some sources claim that the Founders Fund is also planning to become an OpenAI partner, and for the first time as well.

AI market experts believe that some companies (such as Tiger and Sequoia) faced difficulties last year due to the financial crisis in the technology sector, so they seek only the most reliable investment proposals, among which OpenAI is considered the better.

Generative AI is all the rage right now, and while OpenAI and its descendants have detractors, investors are interested in the company’s offering as a fast-growing ecosystem around its technology.
