Yandex launches production of OpenYard servers in Ryazan

The IT company released the first batch of Russian-made servers in 2021. At the same time, construction of a plant in the Ryazan region began. At the initial stage, a joint venture between Yandex, Lanit Group, the Taiwanese manufacturer Gigabyte and VTB invested 1 billion rubles.

According to Koposov, on April 13, at the Treolan conference (part of the Lanit Group of Companies), a line of OpenYard servers was presented. Yandex itself is going to declare the equipment in the register of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, this will allow access to public procurement.

As the interlocutor of the publication among electronics manufacturers said, today more than half of server sales in the Russian Federation come from foreign suppliers. These are Huawei, HP, Dell and others. Of the national sellers, the first place is occupied by Yadro (15%), says the source. In second place is Aquarius (10%), in third is Kraftway (7%).

The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that Yandex, being a private company, has the right to choose for itself which technical solutions to use.

The interlocutor of the publication believes that OpenYard will fall into the registry of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, despite the fact that the equipment is assembled from foreign components. According to him, “everyone is doing it now.” But Yandex, at least, used its own developments.

He claims that the company will produce motherboards and develop SKD servers.
