Attackers have started sticking fake QR codes on electric scooters in Moscow, RIA Novosti reports, citing representatives of kicksharing services.

A new type of electric scooter fraud has appeared in Moscow

  • Whoosh informed the publication that with each case of publication of “unauthorized information” the security service of the service works.
  • Yurent also said that if such items are found, the scanners will “immediately remove them.” The service added that the stickers are “an example of vandalism and possible fraud.”
  • Yandex GO also quickly removes articles that are not related to scooter rental.

All services added that it is necessary to scan a QR code before starting a trip only through official applications.

The publication does not specify what type of fraud it is. The Whoosh RB.RU press service, in response to a relevant request, reported that we were talking about “unauthorized advertising.” They added that “these are isolated cases” and noted that the official application of the service does not accept third-party codes and protects the user from clicking on the link.

Yurent also told RB.RU that they plan to contact the police about the fact of property damage and the application of false information to electric scooters.
