In the past, PDAs have tried to fit computing power into a pocket device that often falls short of expectations, but we’ve finally gotten to smartphones.
However, the Chonky Pocket is different from its ancestors. It really has the title of a full-fledged computer that can really fit in your pocket. The device features a 5-inch LCD touchscreen, complete with a ten-key keypad and a scroll wheel for typing. Although it takes practice to master the keyboard.
Chonky Pocket is powered by Raspberry Pi 4 Model B. The AmpRipper 4000 is powered by six 18650 Lithium batteries connected to the power supply. An interesting feature of this power supply is the ability to report the battery level via I2C; taskbar to display the current rate.
Buttons connect directly to Raspberry Pi’s GPIO pins, eliminating the need for a separate microcontroller.
To complete the build, Norris posted the STL file and parts list to GitHub so that enthusiasts can build their own Chonky Pocket.
