Global tablet shipments fell 18% year-on-year to just 31.7 million units in the first quarter of 2023, according to the latest data from Canalys. This is the lowest number of shipments since the start of the pandemic in 2020.

“We see that tablet manufacturers and retailers are now more concerned about dealing with high stock levels and are adjusting expectations for more moderate and predictable demand,” said Himani Mukka, director of research at Canalys.

Still, despite declining demand, the analyst firm believes there is room for growth for tablet manufacturers through commercial use and educational adoption.
