The Federal Tax Service may become the regulator of the cryptocurrency industry in Russia. Now the Federal Tax Service deals with foreign accounts of citizens, and “a cryptocurrency wallet is no different in this regard,” Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev told Izvestia.

The Federal Tax Service is considered for the role of regulator of cryptocurrencies in Russia

In the concept developed by the department, the regulator will accept statements from citizens about their wallets and transactions. Now, for foreign accounts, this is done by the tax service. According to Moiseev, a cryptocurrency wallet is no different from a foreign account.

At the same time, information about the “wallet” and operations is now sent to three organizations: the Federal Tax Service, Rosfinmonitoring and the Central Bank. “But the FTS will be the interface for everyone except the banks,” he added. The Vice Minister of Finance recalled that, according to the basic concept, both legal entities and individuals may mine cryptocurrencies, sell them in the foreign market or own them.

  • The Russian authorities are developing a bill on the creation of a national crypto platform. It will form a registry of digital currency operators, monitor their compliance with the necessary requirements, and grant licenses for their activities.
  • Since the beginning of 2023, the price of mining equipment has increased by 15-20%, and in some cases as much as 30%. At the beginning of the second quarter, the average price of ASIC computers increased to $1.5-2 thousand.
