Private specialists and companies in the service sector earned around 16 trillion rubles from April 2022 to March 2023, which corresponds to around 10% of Russia’s GDP in 2022, according to a study by the ORO agency and the platform Avito Services.
According to Rosstat, GDP for 2022 amounted to 153.4 trillion rubles in absolute terms.
The number of specialists working in the service sector is about 13.9 million people throughout the country – one in six Russians of working age. There are also 5.6 million companies and private artists in the industry.
During the study period, the Russians placed 4.1 billion orders, which amounted to about 15.9 trillion rubles for specialists and private companies.
The study also showed that most of the orders and income in the market falls on private artisans and micro-enterprises. Almost half (43%) of orders are received by artisans and private companies through online channels, 56% of service providers seek customers through word of mouth.
The largest categories of services in the market
- By income Of the artists, the construction sector is in the lead: craftsmen and companies earned 3.74 trillion rubles during the year.
- By number of interpreters leader in the field of beauty and health. These specialists represent 13% of the market or 735 thousand providers (companies and private teachers).
- By number of orders the transportation services category is in the lead: in 2022, the share of orders in this segment amounted to 28% of the total number of orders in the services market (1.144 billion orders). In second place is the category “beauty and health” (20% – 829 million orders).
