Softline plans to release its own operating system (OS) for computers and laptops. The solution is being developed on the basis of the National Support and Development Center technology acquired in 2021, which is based on Linux.
The company expects to provide deliverables of the solution for both common users and the public sector, Kommersant learns.
Experts say that there is already enough home software on the market, and updating the necessary functionality will require significant investments from Softline, which will be difficult to recoup.
- Until 2022, Softline was one of the largest Microsoft distributors, but after the exit of foreign vendors from the Russian market, it refocused on local technologies.
- In June 2022, the company announced plans to split the business into Russian and international, the procedure was completed in October. In April, the founder of the Softline group of companies, Igor Borovikov, decided to withdraw from Softline’s shareholders.
