The Central Bank of Cuba plans to launch the Mir card payment system in the country next month. Mir cards are now used in Cuban ATMs and work is underway to adapt the system to pay for goods and services through purchase, according to Boris Titov, chairman of the Russia-Cuba Council.

However, the development of alternative payment methods such as the fast payment system via QR code is discussed. Cuban representatives plan to visit Moscow to consult with the Central Bank and establish cooperation in this field.

Cuban authorities are considering introducing the Mir system and facilitating the use of Russian bank cards to attract more tourists from Russia. Some banks in Havana have started to accept Mir cards for cash withdrawals, but it is not yet possible to use the card to pay in restaurants and shops.

In addition, several Russian banks have expressed interest in opening branches in Cuba, and three of them have already applied to the Central Bank of the Republic.
