When taking antihistamines or decongestants, a person may experience dry mouth as a side effect. Dentist Sulaman Anwar says this can contribute to dental problems. The truth is, saliva is vital for maintaining oral health. Allergy medications can make your teeth more susceptible to bad bacteria and cavities.
If too little saliva is produced in the mouth, this will lead to an increased risk of developing caries, gum disease.
To prevent dry mouth, drink plenty of water, chew sugar-free gum, and avoid alcohol and caffeine. It is also useful to put a humidifier in the house.
