The Russian software registry (software) included the first home web server – Angie PRO. Its developer is the Web Server company (operating under the Angie brand, founded by former employees of the American web server Nginx).
Web Server LLC was established on July 21, 2022 with an authorized capital of 500 thousand rubles. Zaur Abasmirzoev has been appointed Managing Director. The main activity of the company is the “development of computer programs”.
The inclusion of a web server in the home software registry allows you to qualify for IT tax benefits, as well as participate in public purchases, the company head explained. The developer will be able to provide professional technical support, which foreign companies that have left the Russian market cannot guarantee.
- In December 2019, the Nginx office in Moscow was registered. The founders of the company, Igor Sysoev and Maxim Konovalov, were questioned by the police. At the same time, it became known that a criminal case had been opened at the request of the Cypriot company Lynwood Investments, which represented the interests of the Rambler Group.
- Igor Sysoev worked as a system administrator at Rambler in the early 2000s. In parallel, he developed Nginx, an open source web server. Rambler considered Nginx a service development and claimed exclusive rights to the startup’s software.
- Nginx was supported by Yandex, VKontakte, Ozon and other major Russian Internet companies.
- In April 2020, Rambler asked investigators to remove him from the victim list. The holding company also ended its relationship with Lynwood Investments. However, the Cypriot company retained the right to conduct business in its own name. At the same time, the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation had reason to terminate the criminal case against Nginx.
- In October 2022, part of the Nginx web server development team returned to Russia and founded a new company, Angie. It has practically become a fork of the Nginx code. At the initial stage, $1 million was invested in development.
