The butterfly keyboard was introduced on the 12-inch MacBook in 2015 and was later expanded to other models. However, users quickly encountered issues such as sticky keys, broken keys, and repeated keystrokes. Despite attempts to improve the design, the problems persisted and numerous lawsuits were filed against Apple.

As part of the deal, Apple will compensate MacBook users who experience keyboard problems. Although some plaintiffs argued that the amount of compensation was insufficient, the judge found the decision fair and reasonable. Requests were completed in March, with a total of over 86,000 applications.
