Apple supplier Foxconn starts manufacturing the new iPhone 15 in SriperumbudurA city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. However, the idea of big tech is to reduce reliance on manufacturing in China.
Although production started a month before the launch of Apple’s new smartphones, Indian devices are expected to launch just a few weeks after those in China. It is worth noting that the iPhone 15 line should be released on September 12.
Apple has a production diversification project outside of China. The aim is to reduce the risks in the supply chain due to the tension between the Asian giant and the USA.India, on the other hand, is trying to establish closer relations with Washington.
At the end of March 2023, Apple produced 7% of iPhones in its new location. This year, big tech wants to bridge the gap between the two countries. However, the scale of Indian production still depends on parts availability, as most parts are imported from Taiwanese suppliers.
Apple still has other manufacturers in India. A Wistron Corp factory acquired by Pegatron Corp and Tata Group is preparing to assemble the brand’s new mobile phones.
