macOS makes it easy to access our most visited pages!
MacOS Sonoma is Apple’s new desktop operating system that was announced at the World Developers Conference (WWDC) in June of this year. It is currently available in beta and one of its innovations is You can create separate web apps for any website you use frequently in Safari and place them next to other applications you manage on your desktop.
Thanks to the new option “Add to Dock” You can convert websites viewed in Safari that appear in the File menu to Web Apps. The job is simple and you can do it yourself, no help from web developers is needed to make the site’s web application compatible. We then explain how to do this.
How to create a Web Application?
To re-create the process, follow these steps:
- In the developer beta of macOS Sonoma, Go to the page you want to convert from Safari.
- To choose Archive and then Add to Dock in the menu bar.
- You can change the icon of the site if you want, click on it in the same window. Add to Dock.
- Moreover you can edit the name of the web app use the title field.
- Click the blue button To add.
Now You will see the web app on your desktop and it will be ready to use independently of Safari. Note that with this feature you can pin your most used apps and work with them directly.
Web Application Navigation
from your Mac,web app works like any app with Mission Control and Scene Managerand also It can be opened via Launchpad or Spotlight Search. Note that with these functions, you can get a more organized view of the windows you have open, so you can better manage your time and tasks while choosing what you are working on.
When you open the web app, you will notice that its window contains a simplified toolbar with navigation buttons. When entering the application, The web page host determines the scope of the web application. That is, if you click on a link outside of the homepage, the linked webpage will open in Safari. To avoid this, you need to create separate web applications for each.
Notifications and privacy
If the website you are converting to Web Apps already supports notifications, you can sign up for web app push notifications. You can see the alerts via the corresponding icon as it will display a badge when a notification is received. In this way, you will be more aware of the information that interests you.
Web app notifications are silent by default, but developers can change them to sound. However, the final decision regarding sound badges and icons can be managed by the user at: System settings and next Notifications.
Regarding privacy on your Mac, Apple added options to control web app access to camera, microphone and location As with native apps, in System Settings, then Privacy & Security.
This is just one of the innovations that macOS Sonoma has taken us by surprise; It will be available for download as a beta version until the official version is released in a few weeks.
