A week after rolling out the final iOS 17 update, Apple began releasing first beta version of iOS 17.1, the next big update for iPhone, which brings new features to one of the company’s most popular services: Apple Music, as well as AirDrop. The new update also includes various improvements and bug fixes to some existing features.

One of the most notable new features of iOS 17.1, which is currently available to developers in beta testing, is ability to mark songs and albums as favorites. This will automatically save the track to a playlist called “Favorites”, which will soon appear in the user’s library. Marking songs and albums as favorites can also help the recommendation algorithm so that the platform suggests songs more relevant to each person’s tastes.

Another new Apple Music feature in iOS 17.1 is the ability to customize the covers of user-created playlists. Until now, Apple would automatically create a collage of covers of some songs added to a playlist. Or it allowed the user to add their own cover image. Apple Music now offers different illustrations that the user can choose by simply editing the playlist.

Finally, when it comes to playlists, Apple Music in iOS 17.1 now lets you quickly add songs using new offers section which appears at the bottom of the playlist.

iOS 17.1: AirDrop improvements and more

iOS 17.1 also includes some new features that were previously announced at the last WWDC but were not included in the original iOS 17 update. These include: ability to continue transferring images or videos via AirDrop over the Internet when devices are far away. Apple has also included in settings the ability to choose whether to do this type of transfer only with a Wi-Fi connection or also with mobile data.

Finally, the iOS 17.1 beta includes other small important changes. The Wallet app now lets you view credit and debit card balances, although this option is only available in the UK, it said. 9to5Mac.
