Intel-based Macs won’t receive these macOS Ventura updates

Apple has already announced the main novelties macOS Venturea, a new version of the operating system for Mac with many new features related to productivity and entertainment. The company, despite its desire to completely forget about Intel, allows some models with these processors to be upgraded to this future version starting next fall. There are three features that Apple has announced exclusively for Mac computers with Apple Silicon. That is for iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. with M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra or M2 processors. Luckily, features aren’t as important as, say, “Visual Organizer” (Producerin English), which allows you to sort open windows in a much more convenient way, and is also available for models with an Intel chip.

However, some of these features may be useful, for example, for people with hearing problems, for professionals, or for those users who use a Mac to communicate with their own. Let’s take a closer look at them.

Subtitles in FaceTime on macOS Ventura

In macOS Ventura, Apple offers the option to turn on an option in FaceTime that enable live subtitles. Thus, it allows users to read live what one of the call participants is saying, which can be useful, for example, if we cannot activate the sound or if we cannot hear properly due to noise. Also, of course, for users with hearing problems.

Apple on its website describes this feature as follows. “View automatically transcribed conversations embedded in your FaceTime video calls. With speaker attribution, it’s easy to follow group conversations.”

After the description, a small number is displayed that leads to the small fonts of the feature, in which the company specifies that it is only available in English (for the US and Canada) and that it is only compatible “on iPhone 11 and later, iPad with A12 Bionic and later, and Mac with Apple Silicon”.

Some voice dictation enhancements are only available on Mac computers with Apple Silicon.

During the opening keynote at WWDC 2022, Apple confirmed that voice dictation, a feature that allows us to convert everything we say into text, has been greatly improved in macOS Ventura. Now you can use punctuation and question marks in a more natural way. It also allows you to describe emojis so that the dictation will insert them as such. However, the latter feature is only supported by some Mac models, yes, with Apple Silicon.

In the feature description, Apple says that Dictation emoji support is only available for smartphone models. “Mac with M1 and later”. As such, all of these devices with ARM chips are compatible as the M1 is the first generation of a line of proprietary processors for Mac. The company also highlights that the feature is only available in certain languages. Among them are Spanish from Spain, Mexico and the United States.

Reference mode with Sidecar

One of the major new features in macOS Ventura is the inclusion of a new reference mode for Sidecar. Apple in particular now lets you use the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with Liquid Retina XDR as a secondary display for Main. This will make display settings, such as color composition, between the two devices fully adapted when connected to a Mac.
