Samsung announced the new Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro is a special edition of the foldable phone, this Monday (30). The device pays homage to the South Korean manufacturer’s classic flip phone Samsung E700, which turns 20 in 2023.
Samsung SGH-E700 was released in 2003 and has been discontinued for a long time. The special edition of the dial-up mobile phone offers everything that a mobile phone of that time could offer: a 128 x 160p TFT LCD screen, an external camera, directional navigation buttons and an external OLED display with a 64 x 96p resolution.
But the highlight of that time was the integrated antenna, which gave the device a compact appearance. In all, More than 10 million units have been sold.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro has all the power of Samsung’s top-of-the-line foldable technology, but in the same indigo and silver finish as the SGH-E700. There are also adjustments in the interface with pixel graphics and horizontal animations that refer to the old device.
This release includes a themed Galaxy Z Flip 5 box, the device in custom colors, a collector’s card, an insert with a photo of the SGH-E700, film for the external display, and stickers featuring old Samsung logos.

Inside, Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro is the same as the traditional device. For Galaxy processor, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is equipped with 8 GB RAM and 512 GB storage.
On the outside, there is a dual rear camera, both 12 MP, an internal 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with Full HD + resolution and 120 Hz frequency, and an external 3.4-inch AMOLED display protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
