Some time ago we commented on the news that Huawei disabled compatibility with Android about the entry into force of its next operating system, HarmonyOS Next. However, there was fine print.

It turns out that now in China they hastened to clarify that such a measure will only affect users located in the Asian giant, but not clients from other parts of the world.

A week after the announcement, the company published a clarification that foreign units would not receive the new operating system. Mobile phones and tablets outside China will continue to use EMUIsimilar to HarmonyOS, which is based on the open source Android project, but lacks Google services and apps and will still be compatible with native Android apps.

According to China Mobile, Huawei will “continue to expand support for developers around the world.” The company has built a large community of app developers who work solely to make Android apps from third-party stores work properly on their phones without Google’s help.

On the other hand, Emotion UI (EMUI) branding for all devices outside of China will continue to be used until it is absolutely certain that customers are ready to accept the transition to HarmonyOS.
