Positive things about swapping Android for iPhone

• No nonsense!: Of course, Apple’s ecosystem is built into the phone, but this is completely different from how Samsung builds its ecosystem into Android. With Samsung, they layer their ecosystem on top of Android, with Apple it is an integral part of the operating system.
• Face ID: I thought I would hate it, but it definitely saves time and trouble in so many ways!
• Quick notifications-Unlike Android where even the OS can get in your way and slow things down even if you get all the settings right.
• facetime: The kids’ grandmother has an iPhone, so there’s no need for Skype when she wants to video chat with the kids.
• Magnifying glass– I always waste time trying to peek at the details on a label or read very small print, this tool is another great convenience. It allows me to take a photo to review without saving it.
• Share hotspots with other devices: It was an amazing moment for me when I was in the car and my kids’ iPads requested a hotspot! Passwords are not required.

Negative things about switching Android for iPhone

• Wi-Fi problems: I almost thought I would have to return the iPhones for this.
• It’s not easy to turn off the next alarm– Android made it easier to see and dismiss upcoming alarms without hanging them up. Although I can put a widget on the lock screen to see the next alarm, I can’t find a way to turn it off without turning off the next alarm.
• Network tools cannot read signal level: As a computer scientist, it was nice to use apps on Android to tell me the RSSI of a wireless network. iOS doesn’t allow apps to do this.
• Icons cannot be placed freely on home screens– Icons are grouped by necessity; With Android you can put them wherever you want.
• Cannot set default map application– Also when you tell Siri to use Google Maps to navigate it won’t do it.
• Battery: Ok, it gets me through the day, but it’s no better than my two-year-old Pixel 6.
• No Gestures/Home button– It’s not a problem per se, but I had enabled the navigation keys on the bottom of my Pixel device because I didn’t want to have to use gestures for everything.
• Google Play Games backups disappeared– Pixel games that support progress on Google Play Games cannot save progress on iPhone. Google used to make this available on the iPhone but gave up on that a few years ago.
• culture shock: I’m seriously starting to miss my Pixel out of sheer familiarity and nostalgia, but the iPhone is doing just fine!
