Apple released iOS 17.5, a new update that adds important features to the iPhone. One of the most striking is ability to download applications from the network. Users will be able to download and install apps directly from the developer’s website, which is compliant with the Digital Markets Act.
Although iOS 17.4 came out with significant changes for users in the European Union, some adjustments are still pending. One of them is option to skip the App Store and download applications from the Internet. This feature will allow authorized developers to distribute their iOS apps through their website if they meet the requirements.
Apps offered outside of the App Store in iOS 17.5 Apple approval required. Initially, these applications can only be installed from a domain registered by the developer in App Store Connect.
To download and install an application offline, Users will need to approve the developer in their iPhone settings.. While the process is relatively simple, this extra step may turn off some people who are looking for the simplicity that the App Store provides. Apple too tightened the requirements to prevent the spread of potentially dangerous applications.
“Distributing apps directly from a website requires responsibility and control over the user experience, including the ability to manage apps, provide customer support, and provide refunds,” Apple mentions in its terms of use. “Apple will authorize developers after meeting certain criteria and maintaining ongoing requirements that will help protect users.”
