A display industry analyst’s report suggests MacBook Pro will be the first Mac to launch Apple’s M4 chip
After the surprise launch of the M4 chip iPad Pro, It’s only a matter of time before we start speculating about the release of Macs with the latest chip of the Apple silicon era. A tweet to Ross Young subscribers stated: MacBook Pro will be the first Mac to carry it. According to supply chain information, panel shipments of 14 and 16 inch models will begin in the third quarter of 2024 at the earliest and we will most likely see it at the end of the year.
MacBook Pro will be Apple’s first laptop with an M4 chip
Let’s also remember that MacBook Air was recently updated to the M3 chip, so It makes sense that the first laptop to update to the revamped M4 chip will be the MacBook Pro.. The latter was updated at Apple’s Halloween event in late October; this was one of the fastest in terms of total presentation time, with a record 30 minutes.
Ross Young’s report agrees with Mark Gurman that Apple is planning their next launch with the M4 chip, with the MacBook Pro and Mac mini also being considered. How could it not be otherwise? Apple will expand its M4 chip family with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, and these chips will be available for both MacBook Pro models. The M4 chip would only be available in the 14-inch MacBook Pro.

Mac mini will have two options: M4 and M4 Pro. Other Macs such as MacBook Air, Mac Studio and Mac Pro will be updated by 2025, but the release date is still uncertain. The M3 chip is relatively young in terms of launch, as it’s nowhere near reaching a year of existence. What happened to Apple in terms of the period in which these versions were released?

There will be no design changes for any M4 chip Macs
As expected, Mac update won’t bring any design changes. The biggest development regarding the MacBook Pro will come in 2026, when it will see an evolution in its OLED panel, as has recently been the case with the iPad Pro.
Apple’s M4 chip is the first second-generation chip powered by a 3-nanometer process. It up to a 25% improvement over the M3 chip, and while it still remains comparable across recent generations, the best-case scenario is very likely to be seen on the most advanced chips. Apple critics note its launch is too similar to its predecessor.

The release of macOS Sequoia as the final version will also give us another perspective on the performance of the M4 with Apple Intelligence.. Apple’s silicon chips and the A17 Pro chip are the only chips that can benefit from this AI technology from Apple.
