When you buy a phone, you expect it to last at least a couple of years, if not longer. For many people, the time to upgrade is when you no longer receive security updates. Samsung announced that the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Tab S7, and Galaxy Tab S7 Plus will no longer receive software updates. All three devices are now four years old, having been released in August 2020. That’s about the average support lifespan for mobile devices, but it still feels too short.
If you have one of these three devices, you might want to consider upgrading to a newer version. While the Z Flip 5G, Tab S7, and Tab S7 Plus will work (at least for a while), they will be less secure. Software updates are not only about improving performance and adding new features, but also about fixing vulnerabilities that could put your data at risk. At the very least, be sure to use VPN when working with any personal or banking information.
The good news is that early information about Samsung’s next flagship tablet, Galaxy Tab S10 Ultramakes it a truly amazing tablet that can compete with the iPad Pro. Galaxy Z Flip 6 is also available, but the Z Flip 5 may be more affordable and a better value overall.
While these devices may no longer be supported, they were scheduled to receive their final update in August, which will keep them running for a while while you decide which mobile phone or tablet you want to buy.
