If you are one of those DIY types and you like to repair your devices and computer parts yourself, then this launch iFixit This is for you.
This is the FixHub, a smart soldering iron that comes with a 100-watt USB-C cable that heats up in about five seconds. It runs on batteries, and iFixit lasts eight hours on a single charge.
iFixit explains the release this way: “No electronics workbench is complete without a soldering iron, but we weren’t satisfied with the soldering irons we had. “After our founder had to drag an extension cord into his car to fix his stereo, we’d had enough.”
According to the company, more than 1,000 of its online repair guides require a soldering iron, a tool the average smartphone owner doesn’t usually have at home. iFixit markets the product as “beginner-friendly,” highlighting its sleep mode, drop protection, and temperature indicator.
The welder will cost $80 when it arrives on October 15. Pre-sales in the US, Canada, Australia and Europe begin today. iFixit will also offer a $300 bundle that includes the iron, an extra battery and additional repair tools.
