Researchers from Tyumen State University studied how the color of traditional costumes can be used to highlight the worldview of the indigenous peoples of Northern Siberia, especially the Khanty and Mansi. The work of experts was published in the Bulletin of Tomsk State University.

The relationship between color preference and mental characteristics has been studied in detail by psychologist and psychotherapist Max Luscher. Russian experts took as a basis the method of color diagnosis, created by traditional costume art to check how much it reveals the features of the character of the people, the “color mentality”.

Scientists have shown that the distinctive character traits of indigenous peoples can be identified through the analysis of color codes on clothes: red – activity, blue – restraint, green – modesty, love of nature, for one’s family. The researchers note that the contrasting bright colors in the traditional dress of the women convey the colorful picture of the world and reveal the beauty of Siberian nature. All this confirms, according to scientists, that the indigenous peoples of the North developed an original ethic of relations with nature.
