The news came at the launch of the Galaxy A16 5G, the successor to the popular Galaxy A15. According to the leak, the Galaxy A16 5G will have “six major operating system updates” and six years of security updates.

Samsung currently offers up to seven years of operating system updates and nine security patches on its high-end lineup. On its entry-level lineup, Samsung offers four years of operating system updates and five years of security patches.

Google is another company that stands out for its software update policy, with six years of operating system updates and several more security patches.

The proposed change in Samsung’s budget update policy would make its entry-level handsets more attractive and even better in that regard than high-end models from brands like OnePlus and Xiaomi, which only offer phones four years of operating system updates and five security patches.

Galaxy A16 5G: Specifications and Release Date

The leak also gives some hints about the features of the Galaxy A16, which will have a 6.7-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate and storage of 128GB to 256GB. The chipset will be either the Samsung Exynos 1330 or MediaTek Dimensity 6100. The design will be similar to the Galaxy A35 5G and Galaxy A55 5G, with an island of buttons on the right side.

There is no official launch date for it in America yet, but it will go on sale in India later this month.
