Danny Boyle’s new movie was reportedly shot on an iPhone.

The long awaited horror movie 28 years later It was reportedly shot entirely on an iPhone 15. Wired in a report Thursday. With a budget of $75 million, it is the biggest film to date to be shot using a smartphone.

Principal photography on the Danny Boyle-directed film wrapped last month, with the final product expected to hit theaters in June 2025. Cast members have reportedly signed confidentiality agreements to prevent information about the film’s use of the iPhone from leaking. Apple and the filmmakers may have been planning a big reveal to highlight the iPhone’s powerful motion-capture capabilities, but Apple’s report Wired may affect these plans.

It was initially believed that Boyle used a smartphone for at least some of the photos. 28 years later when paparazzi snapped photos of the set in July. Upon closer inspection, a protective structure was spotted that appeared to contain not a regular film camera, but likely a high-end smartphone.

Wired conducted further investigation and received confirmation from several people associated with the film that Boyle did indeed use multiple iPhone 15 Pro Maxes hooked up to sophisticated equipment to film scenes. 28 years later.

That a top director like Boyle is using an iPhone to shoot a big-budget film is a real win for Apple, which sells a lot of its smartphones thanks to the device’s solid reputation for producing superb images.

Plus, a very experienced post-production team was involved to turn the footage into something truly impressive. The results are amazing for such a small device, and we can’t wait to see what Boyle achieves with it.
