OnePlus is just weeks away from unveiling its latest flagship in the international market and is also considering launching its Ace 5 series smartphones in China. But it seems that another surprise awaits enthusiasts.

According to Digital Chat Station, a fairly reliable source of information on Chinese smartphone brands, OnePlus is preparing a “small” phone with a 6.53-inch display. In comparison, the OnePlus 13 offers a 6.82-inch display.

For now, companies like Google and Apple are sticking with pocket phones, although they still offer screens larger than 6 inches. However, this trend is gaining momentum. Earlier this year, Vivo also launched the X200 Pro mini, which packs top-notch hardware into a smaller body.

OnePlus appears to be the last entrant in the race. The latest leak, which first appeared on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, also predicts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite flagship processor for the upcoming OnePlus phone.

The screen resolution is equivalent to 1.5K, and one of the main rear cameras will be based on a 50-megapixel Sony sensor. In particular, a new horizontal island for the camera will be installed on the rear panel.

The fingerprint scanner is located below the display, but it looks like the phone won’t have a zoom system with periscope-style folding lenses. The rumored design and specifications suggest that this is a completely different phone and not one of the China-exclusive Ace series devices.

So far, OnePlus has not officially commented on any such device in development. But according to the same source, it appears that the Oppo subsidiary, which shares its R&D with OnePlus, is also preparing a “mini smartphone” for the Chinese market.

In particular, the connections between the two brands are deeper. Take for example the Oppo Find N3, which is essentially the same phone as the OnePlus Open. It’s unclear which of the two players will lead the new segment, but given its recent history, OnePlus could be the first to market with its own mini flagship.
