After criticism from developers and users, which has recently multiplied on Twitter and Reddit, Apple abandoned its new advertising strategy in the App Store. Not exactly, but the company has confirmed that it will stop running casino and gambling ads.
In a statement sent MacRumorsa company representative confirmed to the media that they suspended ads related to gambling and certain other categories on App Store product pages. It is not clear if this is the final decision, i.e. it will be a category that will no longer be advertised, or is it a temporary pause while they modify the parameters on which these ads are shown.
The truth is that ever since they started appearing, many developers have been unhappy with the way ads were displayed in their app tabs. Yesespecially in applications targeted at minors under it, advertisements for gambling or betting were shown. Another case that also made its way around the networks these days was that of casino ads right on the app tab to reduce the addition to gambling or alcohol.
No casino ads in the App Store, at least not yet
For now, only the App Store shows direct ads, though other apps like Fitness also show workout app recommendations, and the Discover from Home tab also includes shortcuts to buy Homekit-compatible products from the App Store Online, though none of these last two examples are something new.
