Despite everything, European laws only apply to wired charged devices and has an important gap. It’s not illegal for companies to remove connectors and opt for wireless charging only.
Will Apple comply with European laws?
Apple should be the brand most ‘affected’ by new EU law, as cell phones are the only ones that use the standard Lightning port. Despite the disagreements, Apple said it would comply with the obligation.
Also, rumors point out that the iPhone 15 Pro series should launch in 2023 with a USB-C port. But the manufacturer considers the MagSafe wireless format as the main way to charge.
Following the EU example, Brazil is also considering adopting USB-C as an input standard for charging mobile devices. Anatel launched a public consultation on the issue in June of this year.
