It was obvious, but it has not happened until now, the Russian authorities forbade their officials iPhone usefor fear of Western intervention.

According to a report from Reutersthe decision was made “out of concern that the devices were vulnerable to Western intelligence agencies.”

This was reported by the Kommersant newspaper. The policy applies to any official in the country who is “involved in the preparations for the 2024 Russian presidential election.”

At a meeting for “officials involved in domestic politics,” the head of the presidential administration of Russia, Sergei Kiriyenko, gave officials until April 1 to get rid of iPhones.

The Kremlin may provide other devices with different operating systems to replace iPhones, Kommersant reported, adding that the order to stop using iPhones was directed at those involved in domestic politics, for which Kiriyenko is responsible.

“For the iPhone, it’s all over: either throw it away or give it to children,” one of the officials said during the meeting. Everyone will have to do it in March.

On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said:

“Smartphones should not be used for business purposes. Any smartphone has a fairly transparent mechanism, no matter what operating system it has – Android or iOS. Naturally, they are not used for official purposes.
