Intel’s next-generation socket for 2023, 2024 and later 14th-generation Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake processors will use socket lga 2551, according to previous reports. Benchlife now says something different. The socket will be lga 1851.

socket lga 1851

The latest socket V1, known as the lga 1851 socket, will measure 45 x 37.5 mm and will be identical to the current lga 1700 socket for the 12th generation ‘Alder Lake’ Core series and the upcoming 13th generation ‘Raptor Lake’. This would be good news for CPU cooler users as they can continue to use it. The only dimension that changes is the height of the Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS), from 6.73-7.4mm to 6.83-7.49mm. It’s not a big change, but it could mean that new spacers need to be put into an existing CPU cooler. The height would be achieved through the use of Intel’s new tiled architecture based on Foveros stacking technology.

The socket lga 2551 is said to be slightly larger at 46 x 38mm, so most will likely have to buy a new heatsink. According to Benchlife, socket 2551 cannot be found in the manufacturer’s product list. It may return as a BGA package in the future.
