During WWDC 2022, Apple will pay attention to the previously announced MacBook Air, but there will also be a new 13-inch MacBook Pro powered by the new M2 soc. While Apple’s new chipset improves performance significantly, the refresh of the smallest Pro model from 2020 remains broadly the same. The laptop will be available from next month for at least 1619 euros.

According to Apple, the new 13-inch MacBook Pro has some advantages over its predecessor. For example, upgrading from M1 to M2 allows up to 24GB of RAM with a 50 percent increase in bandwidth. The previous model could be configured with a maximum of 16GB of RAM. Also, Apple claims that the M2 soc provides a gaming performance gain of around 40 percent over the M1 variant. Compared to a MacBook Pro with an Intel i7 CPU, the performance will more than triple. Videos should be able to be converted up to three times faster in ProRes. For example, processing raw files will be up to 40 percent faster in Affinity Photo.

Up to 20 hours of battery life, 2TB storage capacity, Touch Bar, True Tone display, etc. Other features look completely similar. Upgrading to the M2 is especially useful for users who use a laptop professionally and/or need extra processing power or RAM, as the M1 variant is a bit older and therefore likely to be available at a lower price.
